I’ve been running for ten years. During that time, at least eight women have been assaulted and then killed while running. Every time it happens, I am filled with so much rage, bitterness, and fear that I can barely function. This album is the music I hear in those moments.

The title comes from a Bible verse. In Matthew 5:4 Jesus says “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted." I think one of the ways Jesus fought darkness was by mourning. He calls us to do the same. Sometimes when tragedy strikes, action is required. But sometimes when tragedy happens, all you can do is mourn. And we are promised a blessing when we do.

It may be futile to fight death with music. However, if I have learned anything from Jesus, it’s the necessity to respond to evil and violence on your own terms, not theirs.
